Water Clarity:
Mostly clear but murky in places.
Fishing Area:
From Mpalane Bay, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam. Be careful of tree stumps in the water.
Average Size:
Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4kg.
Biggest Fish:
The largest one of 4kg was caught on sardine. Fishing continues be successful.
Other Conditions:
The Dam level increased to just over 90% with the influx of water from upstream, but some water was released, dropping it to the current level.
Total Tiger Fish:
An average of 860 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats.
Barbel:
A few Silver Catfish and Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish, using sardines and chicken livers.
Other Species:
Silver Catfish
Bait of the Month:
Sardine and live bait were the baits of the month. Chicken livers and chicken hearts also worked well in the murkier water.
