Pongola Game Reserve Fishing Report




Temp (River):
Average of 19ºC – 28ºC

Water Clarity:
Murky in the river section and clearer towards the main Dam, due to the continued influx of water from upstream.

Water Level:
79.02%

Rainfall:
30mm

Fishing Area:
From Mpalane Bay, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam. Be careful of tree stumps in the water.

Average Size:
Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 3.7kg.

Biggest Fish:
The largest one of 3.7kg was caught on rapala.

Other Conditions:
The Dam level continues to increase due to the good rains received in the area and in the river catchment. Excellent water views to be seen!

Total Tiger Fish:
An average of 267 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats.

Barbel:
A few Silver Catfish and Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish, using sardines and chicken livers.

Other Species:
Silver Catfish

Bait of the Month:
Sardine was once again the bait of the month, but live bait, chicken livers and chicken hearts also worked well in the murkier water.
